February Heart Health Month

As we arrive in February and begin to see stores fill their shelves with red and pink candies and overstuffed teddy bears in preparation for Valentine's Day, we are reminded of the source of all this fodder: the heart. February is not only the month to celebrate love with flowers and chocolate, but it is also the month to bring awareness to heart health, something we, at RORE, focus on year-round.

It is important to us at RORE to improve the health of you as a whole person: mind, body, and soul. So during February and Heart Health Month, we ask you to do the same for yourself. How are you caring for your heart? According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of Americans. We encourage you to join us in the fight to lower these statistics. The good news is heart health doesn’t have to be complicated!

Research shows that starting something as simple as going for a walk or cutting just one soda or sugary drink per day goes a long way towards keeping your ticker healthy. Paying attention to your diet, something we can help you with here at RORE is also crucial to keeping your heart healthy. Try adding colorful fruits and vegetables to each meal, and have fun with it. We recommend experimenting to find out what your body likes instead of forcing yourself to eat things you hate.

The same idea goes for movement: find something your body enjoys! Whether that’s dancing, walking, or finding a yoga channel on YouTube, by finding an exercise that feels good to you, you are giving yourself the foundation to be able to continue your good habits for the long haul.

Self-care is a big topic these days, but we believe it is just as important as exercise and a nutrient-filled diet. Take time for yourself to do activities you enjoy.  Read a book, go on a long drive, schedule a vacation, take some deep breaths, put your phone down for an hour, and see if you feel a little lighter afterward. We are willing to bet you will!

Use the month of February to evaluate your habits and see where you can make small changes that count! And if we can help you in your journey towards better heart health, please let us know. We’d love to join you in fighting the good fight to keep your heart healthy and happy.
